Kindergarten Parenting Seminar: How to Deal with Your Alpha-Generation Child?
On February 25, 2019, Sekolah Pelangi Kasih held a parenting seminar for Kindergarten 1-3 titled “How to Deal with Your Alpha-Generation Child” presented by Mr. Adimasta CokroS.Psi. , M.Pd.
The purpose of this parenting seminar was to help parents understand that Generation Alpha is very different from the old days. Generation Alpha is the generation born starting from 2010-2025 according to Mark McCrindle (social-cum-demographic analyst). With the help of advanced technology, they become smarter generation who are more aware of various foreign languages. It will therefore be difficult for parents to face (catch up with) children of this generation.

Obviously this is a concern for parents of Generation Alpha. They are probably worried that their children might have less perseverance spirit, be more interested in and even addicted to gadgets, be inclined to be individualists and have bad eyesight.
We realize that in today’s current development, many of us will experience these worries sooner or later. It is therefore our hope that we can anticipate early on the dangers that might lurk these children such as inappropriate content like pornography, hate speech, threats, intimidation and many other more that could negatively impact this generation. With this in mind, parents must therefore wisely play their role together in this era of existing sophisticated technology.

According to Mr. Adimasta Cokro, S.Psi.,M.Pd., the role of parents is certainly indispensable. Parents must be willing to learn and constantly develop themselves so they can be equipped to become role models who uphold discipline, understand their children’s potentials and recognize their personality well. In addition, parents can cultivate manners in their children’s daily habit, collaborate with schools in educating them, limiting their use of gadgets and also increasing outdoor activities and quality time with their family. Most importantly, parents need to teach and encourage children to build relationships with God and others so that they can grow properly and live according to the truth of God’s word.

Before the closing prayer, this seminar ended with a question-and-answer session for parents and each parent was also given the opportunity to share their children’s daily experiences.
We sincerely hope that this sharing can be insightful and positively impactful for our children and their future. We also pray for each of our students so that they can become obedient and faithful children living in the light of God’s truth.
God bless.
